Thanks and commiserations to everyone who was involved in our NW Cup defeat at Tameside this morning.
To be defeated 5-0 always leaves a sour taste in the mouth, especially when the game was probably closer than that horrible result suggests.
It is usually hard to find positives in such a situation but there were some to take:
Several players made their debuts for the town team and can take away a lot from a good learning experience. The strength of character displayed in the second half after coming in 4-0 down at the break was inspirational at times and we fashioned several good chances that may have changed the course of the game if they had gone in. Finally, some players were asked to play out of position from the outset but did not complain and stuck to the task in hand.
We now congratulate Tameside and wish them well for their semi final contest against Wirral. Tameside were excellent hosts and despite achieving such a big win they did not get carried away or try to ‘rub our noses in it’ at any point. They also provided us with some superb post match refreshments.
Now that our season is over it is important for us to reflect on the whole campaign that began way back in September. There have been some truly memorable and enjoyable matches, especially on our run to the last 16 of the E.S.F.A Cup. Who can forget the long journey to Derby, the great footballing display at Warrington (second time around!) and the ‘battle in the snow’ against Sheffield? No team from Bolton has been further in the national tournament at Under 13 level and with a bit of luck we could have gone further. On our day we are definitely up there with the very best district teams in the country.
Thanks to all players who have pulled on a town team jersey at some point in the season. To represent your town in any capacity is an achievement to be proud of and something you always remember.
This season wherever we have been opposing managers and supporters have complimented us on our style of play and exemplary attitude. That is testament to our players as people and to all of the hard work that parents, grass roots coaches, academy coaches and school teachers have put into their development.
It goes without saying that we are extremely grateful to those local clubs (F.C. Strikerz, Daisy Hill, B.I.S.C, Westhoughton Rangers, Bolton County and many more…) and academies (especially Bury F.C., Manchester United F.C., Preston F.C. and Liverpool F.C.) who have supported us and allowed their players to represent us in such a busy campaign for everyone.
A huge thanks also to all of the parents, carers, family members and friends who have provided us with such outstanding support across the country this season.
Finally I am sure that you will join me in thanking Mr Devlin for all of the hard work he has put into training sessions and match days. There will be no more training sessions during this academic year.
Please keep on checking this page over the close season for updates and news but for now I hope you that all have a great summer term and summer break and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Best wishes
Mr Jackson
